認識瑜珈

瑜珈源於古印度文化,是探尋梵我一如的道理與方法。而現代人所稱的瑜珈則主要是一系列的修身養心方法,包括調身的體位法、調息的呼吸法、調心的冥想法等,以達至身心的合一。

瑜珈(Yoga)這個詞在梵文的意思是合一、相應,源自梵文的YUJ,其涵義是「與物相應」的意思,無論在身、心、行、事、境皆一致合和。這個詞的最初原型是原印歐語的字根 *yeug-,意思就是「連結、結合、統一」。具體而言,瑜珈即身與心相應「身心一如」;人與人相應即人際關係和諧;人與事相應即樂在工作;人與社會相應即服務奉獻;人與大自然相應即共生共存;人與宇宙相應即天人合一。而這樣的理念與樂活族的生活態度恰巧不謀而合。

瑜珈的分類如下:

  • 身,哈達瑜珈。Hatha Yoga,哈達瑜珈。Hatha的意思為左,右鼻孔。以極度的呼吸與身體鍛鍊為主的教派。1950年代,尚有香港的專欄作家在報章撰寫專欄教授如何自行透過哈達瑜珈來做自我潔淨。現代已少有人如此進行哈達瑜珈的鍛鍊。現代的哈達瑜珈被統括為體位法的練習,所以所有強調體位法身體鍛鍊的派別都可以歸納到哈達瑜珈裡。
  • 心,勝王瑜珈。Raja Yoga,又稱「羅瑜珈」。以《帕坦加利瑜珈經》為主要經典,強調八步功法身心並行的鍛鍊,尤其著重靜坐與冥想的鍛鍊,以達到天人合一的三摩地為目標。
  • 知,智慧瑜珈。Jnana Yoga,又稱「知識瑜珈」。以理性的思維、邏輯思辨以探求真理的瑜珈。中國的老子、莊子等可以視為智慧瑜珈修行者。
    情,虔信瑜珈。
  • Bhakti Yoga,又稱「虔信瑜珈」。追求超越情緒、理性純善的道之愛,以冥想、唱誦、禮拜等嚴謹的宗教生活態度以及積極行善來達成。
  • 意,行動瑜珈。Karma Yoga,通過積極入世的一系列實際行動來達致功德圓滿。聖雄甘地即行動瑜珈奉行者。中國儒家亦可視為此類。
  • 音瑜珈。Mantra Yoga。瑜珈的眾多修煉方法之一,許多瑜珈派別都採用,各自的差別為宗教歌唱、咒語念誦、秘密咒語念誦等等。唱誦時講求心氣合一、專注、信心,長時間的唱誦時常容易引發念者的宗教經驗,效果強烈又簡單,所以各大派別都很重視此練法。

Swami Svatmarama 記載的古典文獻《Hathapradipika》,詳細說明瑜珈的「八支」(Eight Limbs),即八種方法:

  1. 自我控制,禁制(Yama):講求慈悲、不貪婪、正直、純淨、不受慾望束縛等。
  2. 遵行(Niyama):包括潔淨身心、知足、克制、修習聖賢古訓,以及對天地保持虔敬的心。
  3. 瑜珈姿勢,體位(Asana):穩定和舒服的姿勢。
  4. 調息法(Pranayama):系統的呼吸方法。
  5. 控制感官,制感(Pratyahara):控制感覺器官。
  6. 執持(Dharana):集中專注力以提升生命之氣,是冥想前的預備功。
  7. 禪定(Dhyana):即冥想。
  8. 入定,或三摩地(Samadhi):超越意識的境界。身體和感官靜止,看似在睡眠,但頭腦仍保持警惕。

以上對瑜珈概略的介紹,希望能讓讀者對瑜珈有初步的了解。瑜珈是追求身心合一的一種方法,現代人生活忙碌,常常忘了照顧身體及心理的健康,透過瑜珈,我們可以調養自己的身心,並與萬物達成平衡。
